Copyright on cars in stories and comics?

I work on a comic about racing for some time know and have'nt been able to find information on copyrights or tademarkes on cars. I saw a manga called Initial D, which uses real cars and consumption on cars, but nowhere in the book does give credit to their business then is a comic book called Rush City that uses a Pontiac Solstice and also gives no credit. It is the only time you violate a copyright is when your in the automotive field or their copyright is still held in a story or comic?

Yes. The copyrights are still but these companies turn simply close the eyes of those comics.
