what the different generations of your family call the "main living area?
What do they call it and what do they usually use? For example, my siblings and I watch TV and talk in the 'Front Room'. Our Parents sit and socialize in the "Living Room" and our grandparents read the newspaper and talk in their "Lounge". What is it called and what it is it?) Thanks
My grandparents and great grandparents all used in cooking as a main living area. Big kitchen with plenty of space, kitchen table and chairs and sofas to sit on. The kitchen was (and still is) the heart of the house, the place where everything happened and everyone together. The main space at my parents' dining room is connected to the kitchen, the kitchen is too small to be used as my grandparents to use. This is the main room from early morning and after dinner in the evening, then they move to the TV room where they relax and watch TV before it's bedtime. Our kitchen is too small to have people in it, the dining room is also a small disaster, we have the room "every day" which is connected to the kitchen and dining room. There are no doors so I can cook and still be part of the discussion in the 'room every day, "or I can wash dishes and watch TV at the same time if I want.
